camping with Uncle B (part two)

The following morning came too soon. Uncharacteristically, Sam had awakened in the middle of the night, but was soon comforted by his mom laying down beside him. Unforunately (and characteristically), Andie had also awakened in the middle of the night and would not be consoled by the remaining parent: her poor, poor father. So, rather than terrorize the entire campground with her ticked-off screaming the whole night, I swapped out my warm sleeping back for a cold night of pacing the floor in our teeny-tiny tent trailer. She finally calmed down and I tucked her into bed with me. (Later, a man several campsites away made a comment to us that he'd thought a baby'd gotten burned at a late night campfire because he'd heard a baby screaming pretty terrifically in the middle of the night. We feigned ignorance and shook our heads, murmuring, "Poor baby...we heard that, too.")

Anyhoo, I woke up in no mood to eat oatmeal for breakfast. Plus, we'd planned to meet Team Eddy (sans Kevin, who was otherwise occupied) in nearby Potlatch, so we loaded up in the car to drive to a local cafe for breakfast. Hot coffee, pancakes, an omelet, and toast later, I was feeling more benevolent toward my bad-sleepin' baby and her brother. And, if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

After breakfast, we headed back to the campground to unpack, change diapers, and get ready for an "adventure" (according to Sam...a hike according to the rest of us). Lala made the drive up to hang out with us for the morning. We were a bit surprised because she isn't really a nature-lovin' girl, but her Friend Dan enjoys hiking and I think it's starting to rub off on her.

That afternoon, Amy (who, if you haven't heard already, is expecting Crazy Eddy #4), Glory, and Andie napped in the shade while the rest of us went swimming in the icy, icy Palouse river.

To be continued...
