the 1st trimester is about as fun as a poke in the eye with sharp stick...

...or a feeding tube up your nose.

After getting IV fluids a few times this week and not really making any headway, I had a small NG tube inserted yesterday. The plan was that I'd learn how to insert it myself and be able to take it out as I pleased, but it turns out I don't have the kind of willpower to do that to my own body. So a very nice nurse inserted it and it's just going to stay in my nose for awhile.

The theory is that I've been literally starving, which perpetuates the nausea and vomiting cycle, which causes--duh--more starving. If I can avoid actually eating food (and not activate my nausea center), but get fed, hopefully I can break the cycle.

We're going to try this for 3 days and then see if I can go back to real food.

I'm hopeful. I haven't vomited once since I got the tube in. And yesterday I kept in almost 800 calories.

Keep us in your prayers. I'm hoping we're turning a corner.

And please, please remind me of this post if years from now I start talking about wanting another baby again.

Maybe just poke me in the eye with a sharp stick.

the hcg diet

Sorry for the blogging hiatus, readers. I started the hcg diet.

No, not the kind of diet where you buy fancy hcg drops and eat 500 calories a day.

I mean the kind of diet where your husband knocks you up and you find out you're expecting Baby #3 in February.

(I'll just pause for a moment and let that sink in).

We're about 8 or 9 weeks along and this has been the worst case of "morning sickness" yet. (I have to laugh when I call it morning sickness, which implies there is a time limit to the sickness).

Yesterday, Sam said, "Whoa! Good job, Mom. That's the biggest throw-up I've seen come out of your nose ever!". Thank you, son. I too am proud of my throwing up abilities.

I've lost 8lbs so far...with no end in sight yet. I'm hoping we're about halfway through.

Joe's hoping we're almost done, too. He's been on single dad duty, plus gets the honor of washing my puke bowl.

We are overjoyed that we about our news, but will be so much happier when we're on the other side of this challenge. Keep us in your prayers.

happy anniversary, Kevin and Amy!

It seems like just yesterday you two were voted "Most Likely to Get Married" in high school...and then you broke up. Good thing you got back together at Joe's & my wedding (you can thank us later).

Who knew you would have such a prolific marriage?

Keep up the good work, guys.
